Stunning Scenery.jpg

Every year, millions of wildebeest, zebra and other herbivores trek from the southern Serengeti to the lush green grasses of the Masai Mara. As the herds of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles enter the Masai Mara they are met by more than their fair share of lethal predators. Aside from the threat of the big cats, the lemming-like herds are also faced with over 3000 crocodiles lurking in the murky waters of the Mara River during their river crossing. Watching the herds blindly jump from riverbank ledges and into the river waters is spectacular to say the least. Known as one of the seven wonders of the world, the great migration is an iconic safari must-see.

We'll be based primarily just Northwest of the main Masai Mara National Reserve, in the Mara North Conservancy; a quieter alternative that still demonstrates the diversity and concentration of the area’s wildlife.

Game drives take place twice a day in a private vehicle just for our group: at first light, when grazing animals make the most of cooler conditions and the tracks of predators are still fresh from their night-time hunts. And, after a leisurely afternoon at camp, an evening drive as the bush glows golden and predators begin to stir from their slumber. After sundowner drinks and snacks, you return to camp after dark, scanning the bush with a flashlight to pick up the reflective orbs of nocturnal animals’ eyes.

We'll also be visiting the main Masai Mara National Reserve, which offers a completely different safari experience, but one that increases chances of great river crossings and further animal sightings.

Of course, photographing all of this is the main focus - and that's why you'll have photographic guidance and tuition throughout. From helping you with settings on vehicle, pointing out new composition ideas and sharing editing techniques back at camp - you'll leave with an excitingly grand and diverse portfolio of new images.

Day One

Meet at Wilson airport in Nairobi and fly to Mara North conservancy. We'll then be driven to our lodge.

Upon arrival, take a moment to settle in, have a drink and get used to your new surroundings before heading out on your first drive. After your first outing, you'll return back for celebratory drinks and a hearty dinner before bed.

Day Two - Six

Early morning game viewing activities are followed by breakfast back at the lodge. Time in between activities is your free time to relax; take a nap, read a book or keep an eye out for birds and other animals that wander by. This is also a perfect time to reflect upon your images, and Sam will be at hand and ready to conduct editing sessions and private critiques. Once again, the afternoon will come by and you'll be off on the search for game before returning back for dinner.

There is also the opportunity for full day game drives, which will be decided upon by the group as a whole. There will also be two day visits to Masai Mara National Reserve to increase chances for river crossings and further diverse sightings.

Day Seven

Early morning game drive and breakfast will be followed with checkout and departure.

You'll be transported back to Wilson airport and we aim to arrive early afternoon, so people can catch connecting flights back home or carry on with their travels.

Sam has been a professional photographer for over a decade, starting off locally in England with wedding photography. His lifelong love for Africa eventually had him move out and taking on the role of teaching and managing photography projects in the Greater Kruger region of South Africa. He's seen his images and writing published in National Geographic, Africa Geographic, BBC Wildlife Magazine, Travel Africa and more.

Sam's core belief is that great photography is not hard to come by, but meaningful photography is, and his aim is to teach photographers the potential importance and impact their images can have in aiding and assisting the health and growth of our natural biosphere.
